MARTIN FINISHES 4TH IN THRILLING RACE 1 AT INDY

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 8th, 2015) – Anthony Martin’s debut at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway began Friday morning with a strong qualifying effort, clocking in at 1:27.347 around the 2.439-Mile, 14 turn Grand Prix circuit at Indianapolis, earning the Australian rookie 6th place on the starting grid on his first trip to the famed Brickyard in the Mazda powered John Cummiskey Racing #33 Burgess-BLA car.

Following a lap 1 yellow, Martin got to work around the Indianapolis Granx Prix circuit, posting his best lap of the race just before half-way (Lap 7, 1:27.551), and continued to click off a consecutive string of laps in the 1:27 bracket, improving to 4th place from his original starting position just before the final yellow on lap 14. The yellow set the scene for a thrilling restart with 5 minutes remaining in the race as the field charged into turn 1. Leader Aaron Telitz was on the brakes too late heading into turn 1, causing a jam up which gave Martin room to move from 4th, into 2nd place as the field exited turn 1.

Martin maintained 3rd throughout the final laps of the race before ultimately being passed by Tellitz as the race neared the 30 minute mark that signaled the checkered flag.

The 4th place finish allowed Martin to expand his 4th place championship standing over Victor Franzoni (25 points back).

Race 2 begins Saturday morning, May 9th at 10:30AM. Martin will start again from 6th based on qualifying results from Friday morning’s session.
