JCR Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca Practice Recap

Monterey, CA — John Cummiskey Racing drivers Michael Scott and Lucas Kohl finished 12th and 15th, respectively, in the combined results of two practice sessions Friday of the Team Cooper Tire USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Both drivers were seeing the 11-turn, 2.238-mile natural terrain road course for the first time, so the two practice sessions were just as much about learning the nuances of Laguna Seca as it was about posting a fast time.

The first session was delayed by approximately 90 minutes because of fog, and when the drivers took to the track they encountered some cool conditions which led to many of the drivers posting their fastest laps of the day.

Early on, Scott, driving the No. 33 EastPack car, was running as high as eighth on the speed chart — he was also in the eighth spot for a time in the second session as well — and Kohl was ninth. When the 25-minute session was complete, Scott had the 12th-fastest time of one minute, 28.8836 seconds, although that time was just about a half-second away from holding onto that 8th-best time. Kohl posted a best time of 1:29.3028, which left him 15th on the speed chart.

With warmer temperatures in the afternoon, the changing track conditions left speeds about a second slower throughout the whole field. When the second session had ended, Kohl was 13th overall in 1:29.4599, with Scott right behind in 1:29.5792.

Overall, Scott turned 33 laps between the two sessions, while Kohl completed 31 circuits.

JCR and the rest of the USF2000 field will qualify at 10:05 a.m. (PDT) — weather permitting — and Race 1 of the weekend will go off at 4:05 p.m.
